Happy Birthday to us, happy birthday to us, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Wow, First Dance Studios is….drum roll please….celebrating it’s SUPER SEVENTEEN! That’s right, we are 17 years old. And we thought we would have a little reminder of how it all began below. Let’s have a look.

How did it all start for First Dance Studios

Here we go with a little story which starts decades ago and where dance still remains at the heart of this family. The wonderful Jeanne Brewer had a dance school here in Woking. And this wonderful School of Dance taught students for almost 50 years. Many people still recall Mrs Brewer teaching them to this day! Emma and Katie Brewer are her granddaughters and decided to keep the Brewer leg-acy going.

First Dance Studios begins

Emma had been teaching adult dance classes at Woking Dance Space and decided it was time. Time for dance. So the studio opened on March 7th 2005 with a tap dance class for adults at 9.30am. From that dance class it grew. Now there are five tap classes a week – have a look at them here. There are technical tap classes now as well as show tap which we have now called challenge tap dance for adults. And there are sessions for beginners and workshops when we get back to the studio. Do let us know if you want to join in for the tap workshop. So this dance dream of two sisters that would meet up at lunchtimes and plan it all out came alive.

“And now, welcome to the Stage”

Since 2005, First Dance Studios has grown to have ballet, tap, contemporary, musical theatre, pilates, Zumba, HIIT & Core, Stretch Flow, Jazz dance with theatre jazz for a musical twist, street jazz dance for a funky beat and Drop off & Dance for a let’s dance session. And why not show off our wonderful dances, dancers and routines? And so in 2010 that’s exactly what happened. A dance showcase for family and friends at The Rhoda McGaw Theatre in Woking. Keep Dancing

In 2016 First Dance Studios moved to the wonderful location of Heather Farm in Woking, Surrey for all those adults who love to dance. A dance studio, a gymnastics club, a nature reserve, a dog walker’s paradise and a cafe. Heaven! Plus with actual parking – excellent! Heather Farm and the Prime Acrobatics Centre has been home to our dance family and friends and we’ve had a lot of fun there.  Then, two weeks from being on stage we were all due to perform in “It’s All About the Vision” but then lockdown 2020 came into force and we settled into some sassy steps in our zoom rooms.

Let’s Dance 

Ok, we love dance so much that we figured a way to keep dancing even through lockdown. With 25 dance classes weekly and even fitness programmes such as Fit For Show we can still dance, sing, perform and learn together. And it all happens from your own homes, garages, sheds, kitchens, conservatories. Dance carries on and we thank both all of you fellow dance lovers and our FAB-U-LOUS teachers for being there and teaching us and dancing through such times. With First Dance Studios you discover more than just dance, you learn, find your fitness, dance for the joy of moving and make friends along the way. We cannot wait to welcome you back into the studios when we can open again later this year.

Happy Dance Day

So as we are Seventeen, then be a dancing Queen and join us as we jump around and get down to some top dance tunes. Our dance classes are all recorded so you can catch up easily at the speed that suits you. So whether it is learning the new routine to musical medley in Musical Theatre or “Come Alive”  in DOAD you’ll always have fun dancing.
