Again, step kick kick leap kick touch. Again, step kick kick leap kick touch. Right and that connects in with learning in lockdown because Emma will be teaching “I Hope I get it” from a Chorus Line in Theatre Jazz every Saturday afternoon at 2.15pm.
As you are at home it doesn’t matter actually. And it doesn’t matter, whether you are up or down stage because while in lockdown your whole living room, kitchen, bedroom is your stage. Emma will take you through some fun kick pivot sequences. There are some sassy poses and even a good 8 count stretch. You will get it, easily as Emma will break each step sequence down.
Yes, we will be streaming lessons online so you can still get your dance fix. Emma will be teaching this dance routine so that you can easily pick it up while watching. Invite your friends, family, even pets to watch online and join in. You can also get the recording of class so you can watch it again and go over it at your own pace. And so it won’t matter what number you are. But I am pretty sure I am Dani, number 23, who always forgets her number and then sticks her tongue out in each and every rehearsal.
This gem of a track is from “A Chorus Line” that opened on Broadway in 1975. Marvin Hamlisch was responsible for the music, Edward Kleban the lyrics and the book by James Kirkwood Jr. and Nicholas Dante. “I Hope I get it” is the opening number where the performances are auditioning for spots on a show. Through the numbers we learn more about the chosen dancers and how events have shaped their lives and what inspired them to become dancers. Ohhhh how can I get dancing this then?
After Emma has taught us all this routine, we will all want to audition for the role. And once the West End is open again, we can all head down there and get back to enjoying dance numbers and shows again. For now, come along and join us as we make up our own Lockdown Chorus Line. Class will be every Saturday throughout November with Emma at 2.15pm.
Keep those Jazz hands up high!
