GDPR & First Dance Studios – September 2023 Updated

One of the biggest changes to UK data privacy law came into effect on 25th May in 2018. 

The General Data Protection Regulation, known as GDPR, has been implemented and is designed so that individuals have more control over how your personal data is used and how you’re contacted. The changes will also help to better protect your personal data. 

First Dance Studios has a business relationship with you and we store data about you on BSport, a 3rd party organisation.  It is a specialist software application for dance studios, which is necessary to manage our business relationship with you. As we need to comply with the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) this document provides you with the details of the information we hold about you, why we hold it and for how long we hold it for. 

First Dance Studios Privacy Policy

This privacy policy below sets out how First Dance Studios uses and protects any information collected when you use our website or BSport website and app.  We are committed to ensuring that your privacy is protected. Any personal information which you can be identified with when using this website, will only be used in accordance to this privacy statement.

We may update this policy when required, please ensure to check this page frequently to make sure you are happy with our changes. This policy is effective from 25th May 2018 and is now updated September 2023.

• Detailed personal information and how we use it

The personal information that we need to hold is as follows: 

• You have provided only the information you have wanted us to have through email, passing on of your details to teachers or via using or downloading of the BSport App and registering to sign up for classes.  As a minimum, we need to hold your name and email only in order to manage our business relationship with you.

Data will be stored to make contact with you and retain our business relationship only for example:

• To be able to manage your attendance and payments at classes 
• To notify you when you need to pay for more classes when your loyalty card, online card, workshop/masterclass card needs renewing or when classes change or are canceled either online streaming services or in studio.

We will not pass your personal data to third parties for any purpose whatsoever.

• Legal basis

The use of your information for the purposes set out above is lawful because we have an ongoing relationship and data processing is necessary for the business relationship we have with you.  However in order to manage the business and classes we need as a minimum your name to be stored on the database so we can manage your payments for classes.

You may withdraw your consent at any time by emailing us at info@firstdance.co.uk but only if our business relationship ends, as we need to have at least a name to manage our business with you.  This will not affect the lawfulness of processing your information prior to the withdrawal being received and actioned. 

• Data retention

If we will keep any information, this will be retained for the time you have a business relationship with us and then destroyed by secure methods (see GDPR FAQ link previously).  We will not hold any other information after our relationship ends. First Dance Studios uses information through BSport to inform you of classes and timetable changes, forthcoming dance or fitness workshops and any news regarding masterclasses, events and/or shows and performances or clubs.

4. Data storage

No paper files are kept. Any images or video footage taken during your time with First Dance Studios will be stored on a password protected computer. This will be kept indefinitely unless specified from you to be erased. Please note that videos and images may be used for educational and/or promotional purposes.  

5. Your rights

If you have registered on Bsport, you have the right to access the information we hold about you, amend it, ask for it to be deleted and restrict or object to processing at any time, although any processing of your data before this request remains lawful.
